Catherine Scott Venable, b. Oct. 17, 1843, at "Scott-Greene," Prince Edward Co., Va., d. in Asheville, N. C., 1923. She was educated by tutors and governesses at the Farmville Female Academy, a famous school in its day, and Miss Pegram's "School for Young Ladies" in Richmond, Va. After the Civil War, she lived with her aunt, Kate McGehee, at "Prairie Home," near Montgomery, Ala. It was there that she married, Nov. 2, 1869, Samuel D.
