Julia had an affair with a married man. When this relationship failed, she begged her husband for his forgiveness; however, he refused and she commited suicide by poison on the train to Doncaster. She may be buried in Doncaster Crematorium. Her daughter Margaret was brought up by her grandparents (maternal? paternal?). Julia may have been pregnant at the time of her death. According to her cousin, Mary Layne Shaw, Julia had a lovely voice and sang the leads in local opera productions
